On January 13 2012, one of Costa Cruises biggest cruisers, Costa Concordia, sank and capsized on the coast of Italy after hitting a rock, 50 feet long. Visible progress on the outside of the vessel so far is the top of her funnel has now been cut away and removed. However, a news team '60 Minutes' have now put cameras all over the ship and for the first time ever, the world can watch a video that was made by 60 Minutes on what the ship is like on the top deck. Salvage teams plans now  are to build a mega platform underneath the ship, attach a massive gate to her, hoisted by cranes on a barge, and then tugs will float her out to deep enough see where she will sit for the remainder of her short life until she gets cut up and sent away in pieces to be scrapped. That's the plan anyway from what the picture ( Left ) is showing. Will it work? It might but it is going to take years I think!

CMA CGM Marco Polo made her maiden visit to Southampton in the early hours of Sunday morning ( 09 Dec 12 ). I saw her pass Ryde at about 0600 and unfortunately, it was pitch black so all I could see was lights. However, when she passed Portsmouth you could really see her true size without any lights - She is MASSIVE! Marco Polo was put in service about one month ago now ( November 12 ) and has been to Hong Kong and the Suez Canal. Her Estimated time of arrival for Southampton was 0830, although she made it in quite early! She will depart tomorrow ( Monday 10 Dec 12 ) at a Estimated time of departure at 1500. *Subject to change

Ventura suffered serious damage to her top deck in a storm in the Bay of Biscay while returning to Southampton at the end of a cruise. It seems that a large split running across the top deck became apparent after the ship encountered heavy weather. There was also damage to some side screens, and the balcony cabin passengers on the deck below were asked not to use their balconies. Clearly, in this non-structurally significant part of the superstructure, the superficial damage appeared to be worse than it really was. Ventura returned to Southampton as scheduled on 19 October, and after inspection and repairs was allowed to proceed as scheduled on her mini-cruise to Zeebrugge

She has been in service for the US Navy for 51 years now, her time is finally up. USS Enterprise ( CVN 65 ) has now been decommissioned ( 01 Dec 12 ) She was the world's first ever nuclear powered aircraft carrier in her time, 51 years ago. She was officially decommissioned on December 01 2012 at Pier 12 in Norfolk, Virginia. The name of the carrier, Enterprise will be sprayed on the side of another US Navy Vessel though, when the US launch their Ford Class Carrier, CVN-80 that will then become USS Enterprise

On December 06 2012 a successful Brazilian business man fell  to his death after falling from the eight or ninth deck from his balcony onto the fifth deck on board MSC Fantasia. The cruise ship was sailing between Santos and Rio de Janeiro, carrying 3780 passengers on a three-night cruise. The passenger was identified as Theobald Perelo. One newspaper in Brazil, A Tribuna, referred to him as the owner of one of the largest wholesale distributors in the region and a figure well known and respected in Ilheus, Bahia. Some think he had a heart attack and there is now lots of suspicion
